Shopping for arts, crafts, textiles, pottery and wood carvings in Oaxaca is a real treat.  The selection is immense and the quality and value is unreal. Everything visitors purchase in Oaxaca is made in the surrounding towns and villages by artisans and crafts people. There are plenty of markets in and around Oaxaca as well as vendors and shops located in the streets.

There is one ‘main’ market in Oaxaca the Central de Abastos, this market’s big day is Saturday, although it’s surprisingly busy each day of the week. There are also other markets located in towns and villages around Oaxaca which specialize in a particular kind of product; example: Pottery, textiles, wood carving, cheese, local food, crafts, etc.
