Local Transportation

Taxis are a very popular means of transportation in Mexico, they are cheap and found everywhere.
In fact, Mexico is the country with most taxis in the World.
It is convenient to always ask: "how much is it to go to.." and try take a taxi from the hotel or from a taxi station, it is safer.

Buses or trucks (camiones) as Mexicans called them are the most used means of transportation in Mexico. The fare is very low compared to other countries in Latin America and although they are not very comfortable, they are an effective transportation means when you are short of money.
For destinations such as beaches, trucks are very used by tourists.

Driving in Mexico is an extreme experience. We recommend to use the highways when driving from one city to another. Although tolls can be expensive, they are safe, fast and always in good conditions.

Driving inside the city is a complete adventure. Traffic in Mexico is usually messy, driving rules are not respected and is better to drive defensively.

Interurban buses

Mexico has a good interurban network of roads and buses, which have different schedules and go everywhere.

Buses, as they are known in Mexico, are taken in the ‘Central Camionera’ (main bus station) of every city.

Robberies at the highways have increased lately in Mexico, and buses are not free from it, so try to avoid carrying valuable objects; besides, try not to travel at night along highways known to be dangerous.
