NATURAL ATTRACTIONS

 

Sahuaral

The Sahuaral area is a place where we can contemplate the beauty of enormous teasels of approximately 500 years that manage to measure up to eight meters of height. To be able to estimate these giants of the Desert we must enter San Jose de Guaymas located 20 minutes of Guaymas and San Carlos.

 

 

Las Barajitas canyon

Only 12 miles away from San Carlos Bay you can meet a magic and solitary space ideal for exploration, adventure and to have contact with the nature. The Barajitas Canyon is a virgin area that shelters three different ecosystems and only can be accessed by boat or ferry. A great variety of flora and fauna 100% from the state of Sonora ca be found in its natural condition in this beautiful canyon that surrounds the Sea of Cortes.

Considered a "sacred place" by the Seris indians, Las Barajitas is a paradise for nature and adventure lovers.

Other activities that you can enjoy are kayak, sail boat, diving, snorkeling, cave exploration and fishing on boats or from the beach. Additionally you can have a yacht trip towards San Pedro Nolasco's island which is a famous sanctuary of seals and marine lions. Another suggestion is to admire from Las Barajitas Canyon's observatory the stars in San Carlos Bay's clear nights.

Panoramic View

A beautiful construction that offers a panoramic sight of the Sea of Cortes where you can appreciate stunning sunsets in the beaches of San Carlos; also you are able to observe the majesty of the Tetakawi Hill.

 

Tetakawi Hill

Impressive natural formation and has been constituted as the bay’s main symbol. Its steep surface of 200 meters over sea level has turned into a challenge -and simultaneously a delight- for climbing enthusiasts.

 

 

  Artificial Reeves

30 minutes from San Carlos towards the north, in front of Las Barajitas Canyon, with a maximum depth of 20 meters, the remains of the Albatun reeves lie here since 1992. It is home of flora and fauna, characteristic to the Sea of CortTs.

Nacapule Canyon

An authentic tropical paradise in the middle of the desert where the humidity concentration protected by spectacular rocky formations have created an exotic ecosystem with flora and very particular fauna. Crystalline water, trees of nacapule, palms, cactus and endemic plants are a part of what we can admire within its 6 kilometer tour to the north of San Carlos. It measures approximately one kilometer and a half of length with walls that reach 80 meters high.

San Pedro Nolasco Island

35 minutes away from the bay is located

the San Pedro Nolasco Island; It is 15 km high, 3 km of width,  200 meters over sea level and  rocky (does not possess soils). Considered as a sanctuary of marine wolves from California and of thousands of birds which stand out the brown bobo and the pelican, it's one of the favourite places to practice scuba diving and snorkelling. Exploring the rich ocean with marine wolves playing around you, it is a unique experience that you can't miss.

Its submarine landscape is shaped by beautiful cliffs where you will be able to admire a great variety of beautiful fish and marine fauna. Occasionally small hammerhead sharks are seen in the zone.

 

Soldier’s Estuary

 

Text Box:  It’s located 20 Km northwest from Guaymas and less than 10 Km. from San Carlos.

It has a surface of 778 hectares divided between swamp zones, water and the land part is composed by sand dunes and bushes.

Considered a Natural Protected Area and ‘the last mangrove oasis in the northwest of Mexico’, this aquatic ecosystem is a refuge of hundreds of kinds of plants and animals. It’s also the only place of the northwest of the country with the three kinds of swamps that exist in the continent.

The Soldier's Estuary offers diverse environmental services: provides the area with food, economic sustenance to the region, it is a place of scattering and recreation for the whole family, offers beautiful landscapes and the opportunity to practice kayaking and rowing boats.
